DESCRIPTION:Kentucky Politics & Journalism \nYou don’t want to miss our June 16th meeting when Al Cross will be joining us to discuss Kentucky Primary results\, other candidate announcements\, and issues facing Democrats and progressives today. He will also talk about the current state of journalism and where people are getting their news. He will be happy to answer questions and give you his informed opinions. Al is a retired professor emeritus of journalism at the University of Kentucky School of Journalism. He was the longest-serving political writer for the Louisville Courier Journal (1989-2004) and national president of the Society of Professional Journalists in 2001-02. He was inducted into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame in 2010. He is often a commentator on KET\, and you can read his articles in the Kentucky Lantern. \nIn addition\, Blair Haydon\, executive director of Emerge Kentucky\, will update us on how this organization recruits\, trains\, and provides a network for Democratic women who want to run for office. Also\, Tina Bryson will speak briefly about her candidacy for 6th District City Council. \n\n\nWhen: Tuesday\, June 16\, 6:30 pm \n\n\nWhere: Lexington Unitarian Universalist Church\, 3564 Clays Mill Road \n\n\nFlip the 6th \nKentucky’s 6th Congressional District is one of the most competitive and consequential in the country this cycle. DESCRIPTION:General Information: \nJune 20\, 2026\nErlanger Branch Library\n401 Kenton Lands Road\, Erlanger\, KY \nKWN\, NKY is not here to run your campaign. We are here to support campaigns and communities by connecting candidates\, experienced volunteers\, and new volunteers with the training and tools they need to win\, from school board to U.S. Senate\, in 2026 and every year after. \nOur goal is to: \n\nHelp citizens understand the process and every office on the ballot.\nBuild organized\, effective campaign teams.\nImprove the lives of our communities by winning races up and down the ballot.\n\nWho we need \n\nTrainers/mentors: People experienced in any of the areas below who are willing to teach\, mentor\, and try new approaches.\nVolunteers/learners: People ready to be trained\, follow campaign direction\, and help candidates win.\n\nAreas where we need trainers and volunteers \n\nPrecinct team organizing\nResearch on opponents’ records and issues\nFundraising events\nSocial media\nPublic speaking support\nStump speech and elevator pitch support\nOutreach to organizations for endorsements\nOrdering union‑made campaign materials\nCampaign finance (KREF)\nGraphic design\nVoteBuilder and MiniVAN\nTexting\nDoor knocking (always in teams)\nPhone calls and voter issue ID\nYard sign delivery and post‑campaign removal\nWorking closely with campaign managers and candidates\n\nWe especially welcome experienced people who are ready to do things differently. This is a new time\, and we need new habits and structures so that we are not just busy—but effective and winning races at every level year after year. Trainers/mentors will work with KWN to develop tools\, schedule sessions\, and stay in regular contact with teams. \nIf you have experience in any of these areas\, political or not\, please contact us as soon as possible so we can plan your training sessions. We will help secure venues and offer multiple times to reach as many civic‑minded Kentuckians as possible. \nIf you are new to this work\, welcome. We are grateful you are stepping up to help change Kentucky’s trajectory.
