Advocacy & accountability

The Network’s 14 Guiding Principles enumerate the values espoused by Network members. Groups advocating for these issues include:

  • Kentucky Refugee Ministries
  • The Community Response Coalition of Kentucky Inc. (CRCKY). Check out their quadrilingual safety planning page that serves as a “know your rights” for immigrants.
  • Neighbors Immigration Clinic
  • Kentucky Equal Justice CenterMaxwell Street Legal Clinic
  • 3R Fund for Immigrants
  • An important way we can help is by being advocates for immigrants, refugees, and the organizations that serve them. Dominique shared information about three bills of concern to this community that we could call our representatives about:
  • Against Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 65(C) – seeks to stop organizations from suing the government. The only thing that has seemed to effectively challenge the Trump administration’s policies is court challenges; this rule would stop organizations from suing the government. More info here.
  • Against US Senate Bill S. 497 – seeks to revoke the tax-exempt status of organizations that “engage in a consistent pattern of providing financial assistance, benefits, services, or other forms of material support to individuals” they know to be unlawfully present in the United States.
  • Against using the Alien Enemies Acts of 1798.
